Looking for the best hangover food?
Drinking too much is a surefire way to get a hangover, but once you’re in that mess, you’ll need the best hangover food to get out of it. There are two basic ideas when it comes to figuring out the formula for getting over a hangover. First, your body has got to be hydrated in order to get all of that alcohol out of your system. Second, eating starchy foods will help absorb some of that alcohol and simply make the hangover not seem so serious.
Best hangover food #1: Bananas
Bananas are one of the most potassium-rich foods in our diets today, and they’re perfect for overcoming a hangover. Drinking a lot of alcohol dehydrates the body and robs it of many essential nutrients, especially potassium. This is why bananas can help your body recover so well. Bananas are also a great source of B vitamins, which go a long way toward helping you get your energy back. Of course in some cases, it may be possible that the hangover is so bad that you can’t keep solid food like bananas down. If this happens, then the best solution is a banana smoothie or shake. Also try sipping orange juice to help replenish some of those lost nutrients.
Best hangover food #2: Tuna
Canned fish like tuna is full of protein, which is another nutrient your body is lacking after a heavy night of drinking. This makes tuna the perfect food to consume to help you get over it. For an added boost when it comes to getting over your hangover, add pickles to your tuna sandwich. This gives you plenty of vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids, paired with vitamin C from the pickles.
Best food for a hangover #3: Bread
Most people know that eating bread before and during a night of drinking will help soak up some of the alcohol and prevent some of the drunkenness that’s sure to ensue, but eating bread the next morning will also help soak up some of the stomach acid that often follows a night of heavy drinking. That being said, Alka-Seltzer can also really help with hangover problems. You could simply say, “Take two slices of bread and an Alka-Seltzer tablet and call me in the afternoon.” However, you should probably opt for whole wheat or whole grain bread instead of the standard white bread. Once again, this will help replenish some of the nutrients your body lost during a night of heavy drinking.
Other great hangover foods
If you don’t have access to any of the above foods, just stay focused on rehydration and replenishment of nutrients. Of course the first thing you probably want to do is collapse in a heap on the floor and try to sleep it off, but it’s very simple to get over a hangover if you just focus on putting back all the nutrients you drank away. Just remember that anything that hydrates, provides protein, and soaks up stomach acid is your ticket to recovery.
